Dharmnath Pandey is a Sanskrit teacher who sits on Assi Ghat, attending to pilgrims during the day and in the afternoon teaches Sanskrit. He is also the President of Dharma Raksha Parishad of Kashi A man with very rigid principles, Pandeyji is a bane to the other Pandas of Assi. With growing globalization – Banaras and Assi are flooded with foreign tourists, who are always on a look out for accommodation on Assi. However no foreign tourist could find a paying guest accommodation on Assi as Dharmnath Pandey is opposed any move to accommodate foreigners in a Brahmin house, as every Brahmin house had a small temple having an idol of Lord Shiva. The Pandas were dying to give accommodation to foreign tourists but could not go against the campaign of Pandeyji. However there come a time in Pandeyji’s life where he is forced to compromise his principles. He loses his job as a Sanskrit Teacher and with no other way to feed his family, he decides to keep a foreigner as a paying guest in his house.
