Nobody generates the type of furore with an upcoming release than the great Rajnikanth. The legendary actor has been able to carve out quite a niche for himself in the Indian cinema. His stature and image perceived by his die-hard fans precedes anything that has been witnessed so far. 2.0 is the upcoming sequel to the 2010 science fiction movie, Enthiran or as hindi viewers know it, Robot. In Robot, the story revolved around the struggle of scientist Vaseegaran (played by Rajinikanth) to control his creation, a robot named Chitti (also played by Rajinikanth), after Chitti’s software is upgraded to give it the ability to understand and show human emotions. The project almost fails when the robot falls in love with the Rajnikath’s girlfriend (Rai), and is deceived by Bohra (Denzongpa), a rival scientist, into going on a killing spree.

2,0 like Robot is directed by S. Shankar. It would be the first and only Indian movie so far to be directly shot in 3D. Rajnikath would be repeating the role of Vaseegaran and Chitti. Akshay Kumar and the Brit actress Amy Jackson have also been roped in for the movie. The budget for the movie has been assessed at a monstrous Rs. 450 crore which would essentially make it the most expensive Indian movie ever. The movie has been shot concurrently in Hindi and Tamil. A dubbed Telugu version would also be released along with the Hindi and Tamil versions. A.R Rahman was retained for the background score after providing the music for the first instalment, Robot.

It is rumoured that Arnold Schwarzenegger had even accepted a role in 2.0 for a record signing fee. But the producers later decided against offering him a role. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Hrithik Roshan were then offered the role as well. Akshay Kumar was finally chosen to play the role. The highly anticipated movie is scheduled to be released in April 2018.
