Top 10 Bollywood Movies That Ran For The Longest Time In Cinema Halls

9 KAHO NAA… PYAAR HAI (1 YEAR)

Take a look at his prolific filmography over the years, and you will probably find out that filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has barely delivered a box-office failure in his directorial career spanning over three decades. When he launched his son Hrithik Roshan with a film sweetly titled ‘Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai’, even he would have not thought what wonders the film would do at the box-office.
When ‘Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai’ hit screens in 2000, it took the box-office by storm, surprising all trade pundits and critics alike as they had no hopes from the film. Also starring newbie Ameesha Patel, the movie had all the spices of a blockbuster – from love, separation to revenge. Though the story of the film was not something which Bollywood had not dispensed before, fresh casting and crackling chemistry between the lead pair compelled the audience to throng theaters in droves. In addition, the music of the film proved to be an icing on the cake as all songs in the album became instant hits with the audience and are hummed even today.
The romantic thriller film had a terrific run at the box-office, running over a year in some screens. At award functions held that year, the film clocked the greatest number of 102 awards and found its place in the Limca Book of Records.
The Rakesh Roshan directorial was made on a budget of Rs. 10 crore, but it did the unthinkable at the box-office. Surprising one and all, the film did a huge business of Rs. 62 crores, staying at the top of the Indian box-office in 2000. It was indeed an impressive number for a film starring debutants as its leading faces. The film ran for 50 long weeks in cinema halls.
TRIVIA: Hrithik Roshan became the first and the only actor to have taken home both the best debutant and best actor trophies, for his first film.
