When you have to depict history in its best and worst form you got to have your facts in place. And the director of this movie ‘Partition: 1947‘, Gurinder Chadha surely has her facts in place as she tried to showcase the hard-hitting portrayal of the most depressing moments in the history of time, the period of partition when India and Pakistan stood divided in the year 1947.

Story Of The Movie:

So the story starts off with the welcoming of the last Viceroy of India, Lord Louis Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) in the year 1947. He has a huge responsibility of giving freedom to India, but instead, he gets lost and depressed as he has to divide India and Pakistan. His meeting with Mahatma Gandhi (Neeraj Kabi), Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (Tanveer Ghani) and Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Denzil Smith) brings to the fore the reality that even though Gandhiji and and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru want one country, Mohammad Ali Jinnah is keen on forming another country for Muslims called as Pakistan. There starts the biggest issue and apart from this breath-taking issue, another event unfolds as the Hindu valet of the Viceroy, Jeet Kumar (Manish Dayal) and the Muslim attendant to Pamela, Aalia (Huma Qureshi) fall in love and bear the brunt of the partition.

Star Performance:

Now discussing the performances, then each of the prominent characters portrayed by Hugh Bonneville as Viceroy, Tanveer Ghani as Pandit Nehru, Neeraj Kabi as Gandhiji and Denzil Smith as Jinnah have aced their skills and churned out strong performances. The love story between Manish Dayal and Huma Qureshi makes you feel for their characters torn amidst the partition and they have brought to the table, epic performances. Special mention to late actor Om Puri who plays the role of Huma’s blind father. His scenes will surely make everyone emotional as this is possibly one of the last movies where we get to see the phenominal star onscreen. Other actors like Arunoday Singh, Sarah Jane Dias, Raj Zutshi have barely any screen space and don’t leave an impact on us.

Director’s Performance:

The Director Gurinder Chadhha gave outstanding direction to the movie. The screenplay by Paul Mayade Berges, Gurinder Chadha and Deepak Nayar is fine, cinematography by Ben Smithard is good and the editing by Victoria Boydell is great.

Music Of The Movie:

The music by AR Rahman is perfect for the situation. The background sound also make you hooked to your seats.

Watch or Not:

The only glitch is here the enitre plot looks half-baked and doesn’t impact you in its entirety The scenes are good in bits and pieces. Give it a go if you want to witness the true events of the partition backed by some fine performances.
